SEASON 4! Lets goooo. The guys have a discussion about what you can expect through out season 4 and the changes coming this year.
Time to kick off season four. Here we go. And there's the opening crack. It's time for another episode of Barz in Barrels. It's a season four opening crack. It has been a while. And that was the perfect poll to start season four. Nice and strong. Well done, Brent. And I was gonna say, we know Phil didn't do it. Hey, hey.
SPEAKER_00Just didn't have the silver bullet to do it. That's all. That's fair.
SPEAKER_01That's because you're drinking like fancy stuff out of a bottle. Not a standard beer bottle. Like this is like a wine bottle. Bottle is. Yeah. It's fine. I I just got to tease you about something, right?
SPEAKER_00Thanks, First Street.
SPEAKER_01My bad. Yeah, right. Thank you, First Street. Uh, so welcome to the kickoff for season four. Can you guys even believe that we're four seasons in at this point?
SPEAKER_00That's about three seasons longer than I thought we'd make it.
SPEAKER_01Hey. Well, we made it like 65 episodes past where I thought we might quit. So we're doing pretty dang good.
SPEAKER_02And we still have a full list to get through here. Whew. It's all we have a lot to get through. And we're stuffing stuff into the season, looking into season five, just pushing things down the road.
SPEAKER_01We have stuffed stuff into we have stuffed stuff into that was a that was really hard to do that. There's a lot of stuff.
SPEAKER_03That's a lot of stuff.
SPEAKER_01We have stuffed stuff into this season and then have extra things that we're trying to figure out how to fit in, which is beyond me that we're to this point and we still have like almost a wait list of things to talk about. Overstuffed, if you will. Overstuffed, thank you. Well, where were you at two minutes ago?
SPEAKER_00I was waiting for you to finish your thought.
SPEAKER_01Thanks. Appreciate that. Assume the strike. So anyway, we're gonna talk about uh what's coming up for season four, and then we're going to uh kind of mix in here a little bit. We're gonna see how well these guys, as in Brett and Phil, because I am going to see the questions and I've done this quiz. But Buzzfeed did a uh if you can score at least a six on this DD quiz, congrats. You know more than the average player. And we're gonna find out if Brett and Phil, you guys do have to come to a consensus on your answer before I click it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I love team teams. Good. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, so we're gonna sprinkle that in while we talk about the season. And I think let's let's get started. Let's do a question right now, and then we'll jump into some of the things that we're gonna be doing uh throughout this season. So, first question. Let's start with an easy one. When rolling for initiative for battle, which dice do you roll? A D20? Wait, I don't feel like I should give you the multiple choice.
SPEAKER_00I don't think we need those.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, no. Yeah, I'm not gonna give you the multiple choice. So what is it?
SPEAKER_00Well, assuming that we're playing Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, it would be a D20.
SPEAKER_02Ding ding ding.
SPEAKER_01All right, let's click it, find out. Oh, you are correct. Oh, yes. You said that like we were wrong. I hey, I'm just leaving the door open just in case. They even give you like this little description after you click it. It's like players roll a d20 to determine initiative order and then add their dexterity or dex modifier. It's like, ooh, that's nice. Uh okay, let's talk a little bit about season four. Um, let's kick off with the schedule because we're we're mixing the schedule up a little bit this year, Phil.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_00You're calling on me? Did you rather talk about? Yeah. No, I got this. I got this. We are gonna switch it up this year a little bit. Uh so you really set me up for failure.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm trying no, nope, not failure.
SPEAKER_00So we're gonna alternate um between kind of podcast weeks and uh YouTube video drop weeks if I'm getting any of this correct. Ross is like chuckling at me because Ross is all this stuff and we just kind of come in go along for the rest.
SPEAKER_01Now I know if you've been listening to me for the last six months.
SPEAKER_00Yes, roughly. Uh still releasing, so uh, this is the part I'm not sure about. Are we doing an every week release, but it's gonna alternate between podcasts and YouTube? Yes. Okay, that was the part I was unsure of.
SPEAKER_01So season three was a little weird because Phil and I both had kids right at the beginning of the season. So we tried to record, well, we did, not tried, we did it. We recorded everything ahead of time. So the stuff that you heard at the end of the season uh was literally recorded like eight months previous to that. So if if it felt a little dated at times, I'm sorry if we maybe mentioned something that that dated the episode or something, uh no big deal. But we went to when they dropped a whole new edition, yeah, like right in the middle of it. Yeah, exactly. You know, just like that. That's fine. Um, because we had fewer episodes, we did an every other week drop um through season three. We're gonna go back to doing weekly drops, but instead of dropping podcasts weekly, we're gonna alternate uh YouTube videos with the podcast. The podcast is also gonna alternate a little bit in that we're going to be doing our standard like DD talking about mechanics or various things with uh the opening crack. Uh, the opening crack being the the beer review show that we do. Um we have enough fun doing it, and I think there is an audience out there for for it that it's it stuck around. And what do you guys think? I think it makes sense that we keep doing it. I want to keep doing it.
SPEAKER_02I yeah. We need more beers. We need uh more beers, more fun ones, more beers.
SPEAKER_01Uh I think it's a fun little twist on on talking about DD because I think we've we've worked it in in unique ways. We finally got our yes and nays down to a you know, if you this beer is put in front of you, will you have it again? Not just arbitrary, do you want this beer again? Yes or no kind of thing, which we took us a long time to get out of that rut, but we finally got there eventually. I think Daming Damon Daming, my goodness English is hard. I'm sorry, Damon. Uh Damon coming on and joining the opening crack was big for us. I think it adds a little credibility, if you will, to the things we're talking about when somebody actually knows uh beer, right?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, I think.
SPEAKER_01Technical side of beer, yeah. Correct, yes.
SPEAKER_00I mean they tasted plenty of beers, don't get me wrong. He makes us sound like we know what we're talking about instead of just our opinions.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and we will definitely find some more pickle beers for Damon.
SPEAKER_01Oh, absolutely, we will. Uh, and he's not shy about letting us know his opinion, um, letting everybody know his opinion for that matter.
SPEAKER_00But that's what I love nays and nays with Damon. Like, it is so great.
SPEAKER_01The challenge rating is fantastic. Like, all of that is a good time.
SPEAKER_00It's very much turned into a discussion now. I'm like, I want Damon to go first because then I can decide, like, ooh, was I was I right or am I way off page?
SPEAKER_01Well, he has to go last so he doesn't influence you too much. That's the problem I have. Because it's basically gonna be complete opposite generally. Well, it's like what was the the Tescat Lapoka? Yeah, he gave it a one because it was suit to him, it was super approachable. And then the next week, a beer that was probably more approachable, the Abbey Ale, he gave like a seven, or was it a seventeen? I don't remember what it was, but it was completely off the rails.
SPEAKER_00Well, we must say uh child draining is a little biased based on our palettes, but it's having fun.
SPEAKER_01Uh, and then the other thing that we're gonna do with the opening cracks. So, so right now we have like eight of those scheduled. Um, the eight scheduled opening cracks. That's not enough beer. Well, I know, I know. I'm getting that. Oh, okay. The the eight scheduled opening cracks are gonna be a little bit longer, so it's gonna be the standard opening crack that we've done, and then uh we're gonna add a section at the end of these called the bottom of the barrel. So we're literally scraping the bottom of the barrel. That's the whole purpose of that. And while we have a beer, so this is like hearkening back to when we used to sit around, have a beer, talk DD, sitting at the bar. It we're and we would just talk random things around that, right? And so we're gonna go back to that a little bit. So we may end up drawing like a topic for that night just to kind of give us a little bit of guidance. But the idea is maybe the topic is your favorite movies, and then we just open the floor for I don't know, 20 minutes, half hour, something. I don't know, we'll see how long they go and how much I really want to edit.
SPEAKER_02We'll see how far off the rails we could really go.
SPEAKER_01When Damon and I start singing, because I almost guarantee that will happen at some point. We'll know we've hit a limit somewhere, depending on the song. Uh, but Phil is right. Eight eight beers is not enough beers. Uh, we will probably do more than eight beers. This is just part of the the standard set, and we'll have bonus cracks in there. So bonus cracks. So uh I agree 100% though. They're too much fun to not do more than eight of them. So that's my thought.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, I feel like we could tackle eight in one day.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, that seems ambitious. Buckle up for that last episode. I feel like we've had nights where we tried to do three, and by the time we get to the third one, it's a bit of a struggle. I would like to say those are probably our best episodes. You're not wrong. Not wrong at all. Uh okay, so before we talk about like other things we're gonna cover this season, let's hop back into trivia. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00This one's yours.
SPEAKER_01On a character sheet, what does CHA stand for?
SPEAKER_00I would never know the answer to this one. Charizard.
SPEAKER_01No, you would never know the answer to this one. Charizard. Uh that would be charismatic. I choose you. Charisma. Charisma? Charisma. Charisma. Charisma. Charisma. Uh you are correct. It is charisma. Charisma is a measure of a character's combined physical attractiveness, persuasiveness, and overall personal magnetism. So everything a rogue is not. Physical attractiveness. Be dashing. I mean, that's about the only one of those you could be.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna be dashing. I I tank charisma. We all know this. We do know this.
SPEAKER_01Uh next question. What does a character's armor class mean?
SPEAKER_00Uh how resistant they are to attacks, or you mean like in regards to roles?
SPEAKER_01What does armor class mean?
SPEAKER_00Like what is This is not a well-worded question.
SPEAKER_01No, like uh submit an objection. That's because I can't you don't want the answers.
SPEAKER_02If I gave you the answers, you'd be like, oh, it's that one. How much damage you can avoid, or how much how strong of a hit you can avoid or deflect?
SPEAKER_00Armor class is a number made up in DD that you have to roll to meet in order to be able to be hit.
SPEAKER_01I think you've demonstrated that you know what it is. If the answer on here is gonna be it's how protected a character is against an attack.
SPEAKER_00I feel like we kind of hit the case. So you definitely hit that, yes.
SPEAKER_01Right? Armor class is a rating used to determine how difficult it is to damage a creature or character, a dexterity ability. What is armor?
SPEAKER_00Side story. Back when my wife was in grad school, she would like give me some of the tests that she had to practice, and she hated giving me tests because I always like call out bad questions and be like, that's a poorly worded question. Would you like the answer that would you like the answer that they're expecting or the real answer? Like that was always my response. So let's just remind me of that.
SPEAKER_01Okay, next question. Sorry. Which D class is known for wielding nature themed magic?
SPEAKER_00Ooh. A druid. B Ranger. C. Anybody else? Two of those are options. I'm leaning towards druid.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, druid and your credit is a druid. And DD Druids wield nature theme magic. They also use the ability to change into various.
SPEAKER_00Do you think maybe sorcerer like is wild magic kind of nature-y? No. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Wouldn't it need like a little bit more? HR patron though? I mean, if you had a nature patron, sure.
SPEAKER_00As a warlock, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Oh, as a warlock, yeah. Sorry, my bad.
SPEAKER_00You're good. I was trying to I was thinking that angle too, though.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, what could you pick as this is also how Phil turns every class into a rogue, is he just thinks, well, what could I do to make this happen? And then he makes it happen. That's true. You're not wrong. Brett Brett has a very quizzical look on his head.
SPEAKER_02I think it's I always go back to Percy Jackson in this regard. Sure. Grover. Yes. Grover is a follower of Pan. He is. Grover be a warlock. Because sometimes he does a little bit of magic, doesn't he? Would he be a cleric?
SPEAKER_00That's a that should be a mailbag question.
SPEAKER_02Hey, oh, mailbag. Well put a pen in that one. We'll be back.
SPEAKER_01Hang on, I gotta write that down.
SPEAKER_02Is Grover He's gonna have no idea what that means. Warlock?
SPEAKER_00That's a big question, right? Like, can you be a warlock if your patron is a deity, or how you know, that's the real question. Like, are you a warlock?
SPEAKER_01Or I mean I suppose it could be a deity, right?
SPEAKER_00So you've entered into a pact with a deity instead of following them as like a god? I can say that.
SPEAKER_02Uh so that would probably push him to be more of a cleric.
SPEAKER_00That's what I want. Like, that's that's the real question there, right? Like, what's the differentiation?
SPEAKER_01So I think gro Grower would definitely be a follower, which puts him in that cleric camp. But could somebody who follows a deity make a pact with another deity for a certain reason and have like cleric warlock vibes?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, probably. To save their forest or something. Something, yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Anyway.
SPEAKER_00Or to save themselves from Mummy Rot, unknowingly.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Jesus. Mummy Rot. And then we all got remove curse, and we haven't had a curse since then, goddamn it. Okay. What does a perception check typically do?
SPEAKER_00Well, it depends how well you roll.
SPEAKER_01Let's assume we get a passing roll.
SPEAKER_02Well Are you paying attention?
SPEAKER_00Yes. How uh well, there there's some debate here between perception, just a perception role or like a true like investigation role on what you're doing, but typically what do you perceive in your surroundings, right? Visually, what do you hear? Um that's typically what it would be. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're just your awareness of what's going around. I feel like the average person taking this quiz would listen to you guys and go, what a bunch of nerds. Well, yeah. Because here's here's you want to I I'm gonna read it. Oh, yeah, how do they know it? Yeah, let's read that. The correct answer is let's characters detect, see, or sense things. The other options are help characters see ahead in battle, help characters see an NPC's class. It's like, what? It makes the answer pretty obvious, but what do I know? I don't know. Yeah, that's true. All right, let's do one more. It does a little bit. Especially when you know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_00I feel like getting six right doesn't really mean much when those are the multiple choice answers. Sure. Sorry to all of you who didn't get six right.
SPEAKER_02You need to actually play.
SPEAKER_01Uh okay, let's do one more and then we'll hop back uh to chatting about season four. What is the name of the iconic DD monster that is essentially just a carnivorous cube? Hint hint. It's a cube.
SPEAKER_00If they wouldn't have thrown the cube word in there, there would have been some other options at least.
SPEAKER_02That would be uh gelatinous cube.
SPEAKER_00You would be correct.
SPEAKER_01Uh the other options were a carnivore hex or a big bad brick. Almost could say that without laughing was so bad.
SPEAKER_00Hold on, I gotta write that down. Big bad brick. New BBEG for you guys. Oh just BBB. B cubed.
SPEAKER_01Oh man. Okay, so how powers does it have?
SPEAKER_02Smash. It has advantage against windows.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01Uh okay, let's talk a little bit about uh topics we're gonna cover this season. And just keep in mind that this could change. We we do like to change things as we go. And I already know of one change in here, uh, but we plan on at least having a couple episodes. There's one episode in here about it, but I think we're gonna have a couple where we talk about playing DD with kids. And we right now, kids is defined as high school and younger. We've we've come across people who play with high schoolers, we've come across people who play with middle schoolers, and we've come across people who play with like little kids. And I think it's worth having a conversation with them because our our experience revolves around playing with adults and people who understand the concepts that you know you're coming across in these games. I'm curious, I I really want to talk to these people and find out like how do you convey some of those things and how how do you get across things that are a little bit bigger than maybe what they can wrap their minds around right now?
SPEAKER_00So yeah, I I'm excited for that too, because that's in doing some of the social skills groups with like middle schoolish age kids. I I'm always curious, you know, how others gatekeep too, right? Like how do you you know what's appropriate to include in games, what's beyond probably what should be included in those types of games, how do you keep kids right on task? Like things like that that just I mean, sometimes we get bored in a 45-minute round of combat, right? Like what do you do with kids? So I think those will be really interesting to hear.
SPEAKER_02And the chaos that ensues with kids and their wild imaginations.
SPEAKER_00Like what happens when you throw a kid in jail or you kill their character?
SPEAKER_01That's a great question. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00You don't.
SPEAKER_01I I feel I feel like there's a certain degree, like, and again, this is what I'm super excited to talk about is like there's a certain degree of like it would be imagination in its purest form. Like it's just them first thing that comes to their mind is not thinking overthinking situations, it's just and like how much damage does a poop tornado actually deal?
SPEAKER_02Fair. These are the questions you need to be prepared for if you're gonna be dealing with kids. And we're gonna jump into a lot of those. Let's let's talk about that.
SPEAKER_01Poop poop tornado? Yeah, how much damage does a poop tornado do?
SPEAKER_00Uh, what else, guys, are we gonna be talking about this season? Now I feel like it's a poop elemental, but we can do we can come back to that. A feces elemental. I don't know. A shit storm. Is it really a shit? Yeah, there it is. We got it. Get there eventually. Other stuff I'm excited about in this season, though. Uh so we talked about doing, and I don't remember if we decided that these were gonna be YouTube videos or if they're gonna be podcasts. We talked about doing like these visit series of where you would visit like a city, right? So we're gonna visit Waterdeep or um we're gonna visit Baldur's Gate or you know, whatever it is, and just talk about things that are out there lore-wise in the city, right? Like what types of maybe factions exist in the city, or what types of guilds exist in the city.
SPEAKER_01And you know what I'm most excited about for that is I see on threads all the time people who play Baldur's Gate 3, and they're like, I want to visit Baldur's Gate. No, you don't. Baldur's Gate is the biggest shithole in Fey Rune. You do not want to go there, and we're gonna explore that. I feel like we should explore that.
SPEAKER_00Yes, absolutely.
SPEAKER_02And these are locations that you probably are gonna come up against in multiple campaigns. A lot of the published settings visit these different locations, um, and even a lot of homebrews end up reincorporating or even directly going to some of these uh major cities in mostly Feit Rune.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think another place, and I'm sure this will come up when we do these, is kind of like our class reviews. It's probably gonna drag on forever, but it like candle keep. I think I think people only ever scratch the surface of some of these places. So trying to dive in and give you a little bit of the minutiae so you can really wrap your head around, you know, how big of a show Baldur's Gate is or how massive and expansive Candle Keep is or something like that, is gonna be it's gonna be fun to explore. I'm excited for that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm excited for those too. There's gonna be some research involved, boys.
SPEAKER_01Yay, homework.
SPEAKER_02What else we got? Uh then we're also gonna be looking at lots of different ways to play. So if you're gonna be playing in person, hybrid, virtual, um, or any different types of theater of the mind, um, if you're gonna be building your terrain, um, or in even getting into some of the minutia of different ways that you can play um optional rules that you might be wanting to do. Like, what do you do during downtime in your game? If you're traveling in a long travel adventure, what do you do in that period?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think a lot of those topics kind of go back to our bread and butters, like trying to keep this game accessible to new players. Like, like we want to be that podcast where if you're a new or an old player, you can come to us to try to answer a question, basically. So it's like talk about like, you know, if you're a first-time DM and I really don't know what to do when we're on the road, technically for like 15 hours. You know, how do you how do you spend that time instead of just going, well, you're there, yeah, you know, kind of kind of talk through some of those things. Um one of the things I'm most excited about this, I'm excited about a lot of things apparently, but uh the mailbags are continuing to be a thing. Oh yeah. And and and Ross still has a uh and yes, I'm referring to myself in third person. Ross still has a sheet with lots of questions on it. And if you have questions.
SPEAKER_02And maybe we'll have a special episode of the mailbag where Ross gets the questions asked.
SPEAKER_01I don't think that's a thing. I don't think that's a thing. I mean, we can try, but I don't think it'll happen. You're probably right. Uh I was thinking about doing A live mail bag this season, though.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna pull out questions from that uh board game, the trivial pursuit board game. The ones that are ridiculously hard.
SPEAKER_01So here's the problem with that, and you know this, but we we we go to church with a guy who Eric, uh, if you're listening, uh for like four or five weeks straight would bring a card from the game and ask us questions while we're sitting around before church, and Brett and I would be like, uh we would maybe get one or two out of the whole five. Like we would probably get like the green category okay, but the rest of them, uh I don't know. That's all it's tough. I kind of want to buy that game though. Maybe that's maybe that's something we should do too. That'd be fun.
SPEAKER_00That would be all right.
SPEAKER_01Anything else that we want to touch on that we're gonna be jumping into this year?
SPEAKER_00I think that we're gonna hit on some things that um I feel like they're important to know as players, but like when you first get into things, they're just things that are kind of outside that scope initially of I just need to get my character built and start playing, right? So things about you know, what are the planes of existence that are actually in the world, some of the alternate settings like Eberon um or Greyhawk, right? What's what else is out there besides Feyrune? And then we kind of briefly touched on like, hey, like what would it be like if you were following a deity, but then you made a pact with another one? Like, what deities are there? Like what what deities, what patrons, you know, what as a character can you even follow? And how is that setting dependent? So I think we're gonna hit on some of those things this season too, potentially, and I think that'll be really helpful to kind of hear what's out there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it'll give you a little bit of a background of where in the world you're playing, so you're not just stepping into this unknown world without any background. You maybe can go into it with somewhat of an idea of what your character maybe knows outside of the game table.
SPEAKER_00Especially if you're gonna pick a deity too, like understanding like you know, what the different deities are, what's their realm, right? Like and and even their alignment, because that could influence you as a character, right? If you're following a chaotic evil deity, there may have some sort of an influence on you know your personality or your alignment as well. Sure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh a couple things that aren't on the list, but I would I would guess this fall if we get all of these, uh if we get all of our standard lists recorded that we may jump into, I I would almost bet we will do an episode on Candela Obscure because we have we have dabbled in that. You guys have dabbled in that. I've read most of the book, but I haven't played yet. You play when I'm gone. Uh and it's so much fun. Thanks. Appreciate that. Sorry. Uh no, it's fine. Uh, but I would guess at some point we'll probably talk about that uh and anything, any other settings or or systems that we come across that that we think like uh last season we did the the Merkborg um and things like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh Matt and I have backed a couple things on Kickstarter recently too. So um, like we've got some uh Teenage Mute Ninja Turtle uh rule book coming at some point, I think, this year. Um I backed that Berserker, which is kind of Merkborg-esque, but more based in like Norse uh mythology, which will be pretty cool to look at. Um, and then some more uh oh, what's the name of it? I can't think of it. Um it's like Scandinavian uh Vessen as well. Uh and tacked on some of the Foundry modules for that too. So we can do a little exploration into Foundry for that too. Cool. As time permits.
SPEAKER_01Um Waiting in the Wings, I have a couple. I have I think it's Twilight 2000 looking over at my shelf. Uh and then Tales from the Loop, the things that I have that I've I've kind of gone through but I haven't really played yet, that that I think would be fun to do. Um the other thing that I think would be fun to do as well, as since we're brainstorming here, would be uh if we talked about some of the VTTs in like Foundry, Roll 20, um slowly DD Beyond. DD Beyond seems to be getting maps to the point where it's they called it their official VTT, even though Project Sigil is a VTT that also belongs to DD Beyond. It's it's a really weird deal, especially since they fired a bunch of competing developer teams, most likely. Yeah, you know, I I don't understand it. Uh, but I'm I would guess we'll probably dabble in those a little bit just enough to to at least talk about them.
SPEAKER_00So we're gonna talk about cool stuff too. So, like I think we had an episode where we might just talk about dragons, right? Like, what's some dragon lore? What are dragons like in Pharun, giants, what's the ordining, like those types of things too that uh are helpful to know going into a campaign where maybe those monsters exist. Sure.
SPEAKER_01You know, the funny thing is when we first started this and we came up with that. If you go back and look at season one, season one is a pretty straightforward list of episodes in terms of what we were talking about. It's classes and it's very basic mechanics kind of thing. And I remember, I swear to God, I remember the three of us having a conversation of, hey, we should talk about lore, and we're like, we don't know enough about lore. And now we're like, we need to talk about lore. So, you know, we've come full circle, so it's all good. Uh okay, let's finish this buzzfeed uh quiz uh with the next question here. Uh, which class is known to be C is not an option. Oh which no, which class is known for being able to deliver healing word? Definitely not a rogue.
SPEAKER_00Well, probably not a rogue. Barbarians, I suppose. Oh, probably a cleric.
SPEAKER_01That'll do. Yes, it is indeed a cleric. It was fighter, wizard, or cleric.
SPEAKER_00You can never Oh my gosh, they didn't even make it challenging. You could have at least said paladin in theirs of choice. Yeah, that would have been at least adding a small level of difficulty.
SPEAKER_01Uh when a barbarian rages during a fight, what does that mean?
SPEAKER_00They get swole.
SPEAKER_01This is uh so this is Yes. Uh interestingly, the answers on this one are actually more like actually actual mechanics.
SPEAKER_00You might have to give us the answers or the choices this time.
SPEAKER_01They go Popeye.
SPEAKER_00Can we phone a friend? I need to call Sean.
SPEAKER_01He is the expert on those. That's very true. No, I don't want to give you the answers because the two other answers, other than the one that is like blatantly obvious, are dumb.
SPEAKER_02They go into a mindless rage and have an extra D6 image?
SPEAKER_00Is that what it is? I think they get advantage on their attacks, but oh no, that's reckless. Um when they attack recklessly, they get advantage, but they get advantage against them.
SPEAKER_02Advantage on strength checks?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's part of it.
SPEAKER_02Um advantage or saving is it throw saving throws?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Okay, so you so you covered enough to answer the question. So I never played a barbarry. The the correct answer on this list is they have advantage on strengths checks and strength saving throws. Sure. Yes, that's okay. That's part of it. That isn't that is a very simplified version of that. But the other two, this is why I couldn't give you these. They can jump and stomp really hard. It stops them from falling unconscious. No.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01That would have been way too easy. You got it anyway, so it doesn't matter. Uh, if a character is at zero HP, what does that mean? They're unconscious. They're down.
SPEAKER_02They're still alive, but they're they can they're on the ground, they're prone, they're immovable, or they're like they can't move.
SPEAKER_00They could be healed back to life. They're not officially dead yet.
SPEAKER_02But they're on the path.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, pretty much. I don't know. I don't know if there's anything else they wanted, but no, it's fine.
SPEAKER_01Uh the other options were you can't roll a high performance check. I feel like I feel like I have that problem anyway. Uh, or you've lost the ability to teleport. Yep. It's exactly what it means.
SPEAKER_00Those things are true. Yes, but those are that's a poorly once again. Poorly worded. Bad choices.
SPEAKER_01While rolling a death saving throw, what happens if you roll a one? You fail twice. Yes. One of the options is you get an extra death saving throw. Boy, that would be nice.
SPEAKER_02You get another you get an early roll on your next character.
SPEAKER_01Okay. This this one's gonna be probably the hardest one.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. Jeez. Barb was hard.
SPEAKER_01Because I don't know if I this might have been the one I missed. Because I don't know if I'd know this off the top of the club. Buckle up, buttercup. When a wizard casts anime object, how long does the spell last? Oh, Jesus. Which compared to the other I just want to say, compared to the other questions, why the F is this in this list? And I don't know if I How long do you think? Did we get the options?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Two minutes, one minute, or thirty seconds, which I think all of those are viable options.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if I've seen too many two minutes, but it's one minute. Things are like one minute or ten minutes or one hour, so it's one minute. It's one minute. Like those are the only options, really.
SPEAKER_01It's a fifth-level spell, takes an action to cast, lasts one minute, and has a range of 120 feet.
SPEAKER_00I couldn't see it being in an hour. I the I like if an hour was out there, that would have been a lot of things.
SPEAKER_01Because if you're doing it not in combat, an hour fits.
SPEAKER_00That makes sense, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I lied. This next question is the one I missed. Mostly because I I do not know enough about magic items, or I don't know the names of magic items well enough to know which of these was BS. Which of these magic items requires attunement? They could all actually be magic items. The arm's not the armor of gleaming, staff of flowers, or ring of evasion. Which one needs attunement? Which one requires attunement? The ring of evasion. This is definitely the one I missed, I'm pretty sure.
SPEAKER_02I was thinking the ring.
SPEAKER_00I would think the ring, too.
SPEAKER_02Keep it on it.
SPEAKER_00Most of the time rings require to mate. That's just an assumption.
SPEAKER_02Is that it? Are you going with ring?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Let's find out. You're right. Ring of the thing.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01It's a rare magic item. When you fail a deck saving throw while wearing it, you can take a reaction to expend a charge to succeed on that instead.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that's pretty cool. Yeah, how can uh supernova sticky fingers get one of these in the Strahd campaign, Ross?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you won't be getting one. No, no, no. No, no, no, no. Uh, and finally, which gargantuan monster typically has ice walk, three legendary resistances per day, cold breath, and 333 HP. And you do not get the answers on this one.
SPEAKER_00Cold breath? It's gotta be some form of a dragon, right?
SPEAKER_02Is it an ice dragon? Is that what they're called?
SPEAKER_00Um, probably just a white.
SPEAKER_02Or yeah, white dragon does.
SPEAKER_00That would do cold, right?
SPEAKER_02It's not some like frost giant.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm wondering. What else would have a cold break?
SPEAKER_01Uh, can you read through it again? Uh which gargantuan monster typically has ice walk, three legendary resistances per day, cold breath, and 333 HP.
SPEAKER_02Ice walk. I'm thinking the frost giant. Cold breath.
SPEAKER_00The breath is around me. I know. Three legendary resistances, but a frost giant? Do you think they have three legendary resistances? We might split on this one.
SPEAKER_02Or is it like an ancient? Ancient white dragon.
SPEAKER_00I was leaning towards a doll, actually, but do we have to be that specific? You do need to be a good one. Holy shit. Hold on, let me bust out my monster mate. No, no.
unknownThree.
SPEAKER_00It might be ancient.
SPEAKER_02Uh, with that many things, I would do.
SPEAKER_00Legendary resistance is too high for a giant. Probably you.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah. Uh I'm gonna go ancient white dragon.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think so. Yeah. You're correct. Yes.
SPEAKER_01I was I was I was really hoping you get it wrong so I can make you pick one of the wrong answers because the wrong answers were Vecna and High Fei Noble. Oh, you knew you know those are not the right answers. Hey, congratulations. 13 out of 13, 100%.
SPEAKER_02It's a lot harder without the the prompts.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah. I feel like we were just the multiple choice spitting out answers there for a while.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, hang on.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so we were right.
SPEAKER_01You you got a perfect score on this DD quiz quiz, which means you know a ton about the game. You probably are either a DM or an avid watcher of shows like Dimension 20 or Critical Role. Either way, amazing job. Bonus question. Oh, they want you to answer in the comments. We know what this is anyway. If you get this wrong, I'm gonna be upset. What is the common language spoken by demons in DD? Infernal. Yes, it's infernal.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely it is. That's unfair because we played a lot of a lot of demons.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that's no kidding. Uh okay. Any other thoughts uh about season four before we get this kicked off proper here in a couple weeks? I'm excited. I am too. I think this is gonna be fun. I feel like I'm excited every year, but this year in particular feels a little different to me. We're gonna hit 100 episodes this season, Ross, or next season? It'll depends on how many bonus episodes we do. Okay. If we do several bonus episodes, we might hit 100 this year. Maybe we'll do a giveaway. Yeah. Yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_02100%. Frost giant only has 138 hit points.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's when I as the DM We're gonna go ahead and double that and give them 160.
SPEAKER_00You always you just do the math. 22 D10s, 220. Always max, for you guys at least.
SPEAKER_02Uh and they can throw a rock.
SPEAKER_00That they can.
