Time to crack another craft beer! This week it's Don't Hassle the 'Hef' from Westbound & Down Brewing Company and we scrape the bottom of the barrel by discussing Marvel movies. Strap in!
Hey, there it is. It's time for the opening crack, the side show to the DD show we normally do, where we taste and rank some epic brews. How are we doing tonight, fellas? We're doing well. Uh just in case anybody didn't know, I'm Ross. I mean, it has been a little while since we've done this, maybe, but uh I'm Ross along with me, Brett and Phil for the ride. Nope, Damon tonight. Damon is on sick leave, uh, but it's not because uh he's had too many beers. He needs the hair of the dogs. Or maybe it is.
SPEAKER_00He needs the hair of the dogs. I'm sure that is the last thing on his mind right now. You should text him that and be like, hey, here's what you need. I'll send over a couple pints.
SPEAKER_01Uh tonight we are trying a Colorado beer. We've bounced around uh uh all over the Midwest uh recently. We've had some beers from Minnesota or Minnesota. Well, we have had beers from Minnesota, but Brett Brett has brought back beers from Missouri. I typically bring back beers from Colorado, so we're going to Colorado this time because I was out there over Christmas. Alcohol over state lines, Frost. What are you talking about? Bootlegging. Uh tell that to everybody who has driven anywhere to bring back Yingling. Uh-huh. Please raise a beer. Nebraska, South Dakota, uh, all over the place. We should really make a map of like where we've had beers from. Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri. I don't know if we've had a Kansas beer, Colorado. We should do that. That would be kind of cool to see. And maybe, maybe that's our goal on this show is to try beers from all 50 states.
SPEAKER_00Wheat beers in Kansas have to be amazing.
SPEAKER_01You say that, but that's like a corn-based beer from Iowa. I know.
SPEAKER_03True.
SPEAKER_01You're just setting yourself up forget the appointment. So tonight we're trying a beer from uh the brewery westbound and down from Lafayette, Colorado, called Don't Hassle the Hef. This is a wheat beer, a hefeizen, to be specific. Uh, the description for this one is it's the best of Bavaria in a glass. This Hefeweizen uh style is easy-drinking wheat beer with a nose of cloves, banana, and citrus finish on the palate. Guys, go ahead and take a taste. Uh, and while you do that, ABV on this beer is 5.4%, so it's not particularly strong, and an IBU of 11. So this should be, as Damon would say, a baby beer drinker. Baby beer drinker's paradise, right here, in a lot of ways. It definitely has the cloves.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, a lot of cloves. I smell the banana.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I do smell banana. Yeah, this one, the cloves come through a little bit more than the banana. So we were looking back through, and we have done another hefewizen. Uh, we we did knee high from Millstream Brewing Company. Um, but Phil was out for that one, so this is your first hef.
SPEAKER_02You're lost. I know. I feel like hef is one of the first styles of beer that I started to drink when I started drinking beers, and I can't say I remember them being this clovey. But could have just been this style beer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I don't I don't think they all are by any means. Like I I think I think the banana is a pretty common theme because of the yeast that's used in these, but uh but the clove is banana and cloves.
SPEAKER_00Well, no, I think banana and cloves is common with sure these, but having it this clove forward is maybe different than like the millstream one that we had.
SPEAKER_02Well, what I almost wondered too is back then, like what maybe was labeled as a hefeweisen was really just a wheat beer, but wasn't true to like a German style hef. Do you know what I mean? So I wonder if that was a big difference.
SPEAKER_01I will also say back when I was a little baby beer drinker, I didn't necessarily pay attention to what I was picking up. So there could have been a just a normal, straight up wheat beer that was a Hefeweizen or vice versa that I grabbed and didn't bother to look at.
SPEAKER_00I'll admit, at one point when I saw the fancy word Hefeweisen, I was like, oh, that looks that sounds fancy, that's gotta be good. And I probably tried it then. And what does Hefeweisen mean in in German?
SPEAKER_01Uh oh man, you know this better than I do. It's yeast yeast and wheat, right? I think so. Yeah. So it's it's pretty straightforward. It's it's like most things, like it sounds really cool in another language, and then you translate it to English, like it's beer. Yeah, that's exactly right. Wheat beer. Okay. Uh so the can for this one is uh is pretty basic. I mean, it's a nice yellow label, uh, black lettering on it. I do like how on their logo, so it says westbound and then down, like over the top and then down underneath of it. I like how the ampersand in between has like the arrow that's down into the left, so it's like and down. That's a good logo. And then like there's an arrow up here too, which is also pointing down. So it's like they made sure they kept the theme wherever there's that arrow on the can is always pointing down, which is kind of a little touchy.
SPEAKER_02I also feel like if it didn't say that it was a hef, but you like rotated this can around just based on like the filigree and the color that they've chosen. I would guess this was a wheat beer. Yeah, like just by looking at the can.
SPEAKER_01You're not thinking, though, this is a corner. No, no, no, no. Also, the uh the texture back here looks like wheat. That's what yeah, I'm like it it very much looks like wheat. That's very cleverly designed cake. So the the can uh it says about westbound and down. So this is about the brewery. It says a brewery with deep Colorado roots that aims to infuse the spirit of the West into everything we create. Always consistent, expertly balanced with strong commitment to quality, elevating adventures since 2015. I will say this does feel like a pretty balanced beer. Even though that clove is for it, it doesn't stick around very long. Like it it's it tastes pretty nice on the palate.
SPEAKER_00And here's what Westbound and Downs says about their actual beer. Uh, the best of Bavaria in a glass, this Hefewizen style is an easy-drinking wheat beer with a nose of cloves, banana and a citrus finish on the palate.
SPEAKER_02Oh, point of clarification. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Is Colorado really considered the West? I think Nebraska's even considered. I think anything east or east, west of the Mississippi is considered the west. If it's east, it's not west. But when East meets west.
SPEAKER_00Nebraska's Midwest. Colorado's west. Mountain.
SPEAKER_02But they're still on this side of the Rockies, mostly.
SPEAKER_01And if you go past the Rockies, you're too far.
SPEAKER_02Then you're west.
SPEAKER_01But is there anything So what's Hawaii? Hawaii's almost the Far East.
SPEAKER_02Yes, basically.
SPEAKER_01By our estimation here.
SPEAKER_02No, it's not the Middle East.
SPEAKER_01Even the Aleutian Islands in Alaska are farther west than Hawaii is.
SPEAKER_02Is there a far west? Or only a far east?
SPEAKER_00Hawaii.
SPEAKER_02Hawaii's the far west. There you go.
SPEAKER_00There's our new slogan. Can we start calling that the far west?
SPEAKER_02Careful, it'll get put on a map. We gotta watch you say.
SPEAKER_00We need to try Hawaii beer. Ooh, I can't uh you know you have cone. I've got a connection. You have maybe.
SPEAKER_01Kona.
SPEAKER_02That's my only preference, not Kona.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I am not a fan. Yeah, I'm not a fan of Kona either. We got we diverted here. Let's get back to that. Let's not go down that road. Uh anyway, so malt in this beer, I find it interesting that because of like the clove and then like the banana on the nose, like you don't get a lot of malt. Like it's a fairly light beer. There's not a little bit of body, but not a ton to it.
SPEAKER_02I feel like most of that really comes from the cloves. It's like as it passes over your palate, that's where you get that from, but you don't get a lot of maltiness from it, no, I would agree.
SPEAKER_01Agreed. Uh so color, uh, this is a hazy golden beer. Like it's a typical wheat. I mean, if you've ever had like boulevard, this would be if you poured this and sit told me it was a boulevard, I would be like sure until I taste it. And then I would know it wasn't uh boulevard anymore. Um, yeast, that banana is definitely that yeast coming forward. So you can taste that in there. Hops, not really discernible. It's not bitter, it's probably there to be called a beer, but it's not like I I don't I don't get a lot of it on my palate. But do you guys?
SPEAKER_02It doesn't have a bite at all, really, from that either.
SPEAKER_01I mean yeast forward, not yeast.
SPEAKER_02Yes, very much.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Right, totally. I agree. Uh, and then like body and mouth feel, it's it's a pretty light beer. So this would be it's it's it's a good well-rounded beer for the most part. Uh let's talk a little bit of DD here. Now that we've talked about the beer plenty, um, we're gonna head to Fey Rune where we're gonna talk about a beer name and a pup name in the fantasy realm. Who wants to go first? Brett, you go.
SPEAKER_00Okay, uh, you are gonna find this one at the Pink Bunny.
SPEAKER_01The Pink Bunny Club.
SPEAKER_00That's very much not a club. Oh, um, it is the Pink Bunny, uh, but it is owned and operated by an eccentric billionaire um who walks around in a very silky robe. Uh, and this is simply called juice.
SPEAKER_02I see what you do there. I love it. Yep, it's the half. All right, I love it. Phil, what do you got? Uh I went like kind of the total opposite direction of that. Uh oh, there's an opposite direction of that? I have named this beer Clove Infield, not to be confused with Cloverfield, but Clove Infield. There's no aliens in your beer. There's not. Oh, Cloves, though. Uh, and you can find this beer. I tried to think of somewhere else, but all I kept coming back to is that you could get this beer at the Shire. I kept coming back to that, like, this is what you could get at the Shire.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. I I can see that. Uh, mine, you could what this has been brewed by Milo, the uh halfling at the Hopped Griffin is the name of the pub. Nice. Uh, but this beer is called the Sun Touched Elf because when Milo first made this beer, he unknowingly walked outside, and his girlfriend, whose name was Arendil, was sunbathing naked behind the bar, and he was like, This is perfection. And he named the beer the Sun Touched Elf.
SPEAKER_00Isn't the guy from Atlantis, Milo?
SPEAKER_02It is, you're right. Oh, and Erin is the name of the town in Frozen, and it's fine. It's fine.
SPEAKER_01Smashing up the you know, I pull from all sorts of uh things. Absolutely. Everything is inspiration, Brad.
SPEAKER_00I like it, I like it. Acceptable. I didn't name anybody like Dart something.
SPEAKER_01It was just like punch you in your face. Yeah, think about it a little bit. Um, okay, so let's talk a little bit about challenge rating really quick on a scale of one to twenty. Uh, one being uh cre males, domestics, things like that. CR20s being Imperial Stouts, uh, the darker, heavier, generally more alcoholic beers. Uh, this one sh could should be interesting. I believe we went back and looked at what we rated our last half, and it was pretty low. I think I did a six. You remember what you did, Brad?
SPEAKER_00Uh I this was the first time I did a double score. So I did uh I can't remember what it was. Uh like an eight and a twelve or something like that. Okay. Um, mainly because after it warmed up, the beer mellowed out extremely on that one. Sure. I don't think this one did that. This one stayed pretty consistent all the way throughout. Um, so I think I'm not gonna have a double score for this one. Okay. And Damon, I think, came in at a nine for that one. That was his first beer, by the way.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_00First time he had.
SPEAKER_01That was the Neehai Hefeweisen, so you can go back and listen to that one if you are so inclined. If you want to have a Hefeweizen series.
SPEAKER_00And if you want to have a good breakdown of what a Hefeweizen is from a brewer's point of view perspective, Damon went into good detail on that.
SPEAKER_01He did do a good, really good job on that. Yeah, absolutely. So, yeah, I would encourage you to go listen to that episode if you haven't. So uh, but Phil, what is your uh challenge rating for this beer?
SPEAKER_02I keep going back and forth on this one between like I feel like it's approachable, it's not like heavy beer flavor, so but there's a lot of cloves. So at one point I was like 13. I'm like, nah, that's too high. So I'm thinking like 11.
SPEAKER_01We don't have Damon here to like set the bar for the challenge rating.
SPEAKER_02I'm going 11.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna go pretty similar. Um, I'm gonna go a little bit lower at a nine. Kind of for those same reasons. It's it's not the beer that's intimidating, it's the clove.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so that so that first half that we did, I did a six. Um, I I actually was thinking a nine as well. Um I think I think in terms of like approachability, I think banana is probably a little more approachable than the the clove. Like if you are not a clove fan or like a sp spice, not spices and heat, but like spice flavor, this may not be your thing, but in terms of like ABV, IBUs, it still keeps it below a 10 in my book. Yeah, that's fair.
SPEAKER_00I would start with a wheat beer over this one. Oh, yeah. Just a standard wheat beer, then graduate up to a Hefewizen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair.
SPEAKER_00And this I think this is a really good example of what a Hefeweizen is.
SPEAKER_01Totally. Well, and I think I think the interesting thing about these beers is like there aren't a lot of beers out there where you can identify the yeast flavor. And that's so that could throw somebody off because this is the first time you like you, you know, if you're trying different beers, this might be the first time, like, oh wow, that yeast gave it that flavor. It's not the hops, it's not the fruit that's in it or anything like that. It's it's the yeast. And so I think that could throw some people off a little bit too. So I I think all of our scores are reasonable for sure. So uh yeys or nays, uh, I'll go first. I haven't gone first yet. Uh, I I I like this. I agree. It didn't really mellow out at all as it warmed up a little bit, but I think on a on a summer day, this would be a great beer, especially if the I Damon, don't kill me. I know there's supposed to be citrus and orange slices with Hefeweissons. I did not do that, so that was his little sidebar there. Um, I think with a slice of orange in this on a hot day, it would be a fantastic beer. So I say yay.
SPEAKER_02I agree with that. I think uh uh orange slice would add that just like touch of citrus to kind of bite through the yeast. A little something, yeah. Yeah, cut through that yeast. Uh yeah, I would drink this again. Yeah, yay for me.
SPEAKER_01Uh if somebody put it in front of you.
SPEAKER_00I'm all I don't know. This was a hard one. I almost would say no. Um I think I would have this if I was eating something that paired well with it. Like a broth.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's like that's the obvious one. Easy. But it's like something like that, I would go for one of these. Sure. Especially over lots and lots of other types of beers. But on its own, probably not. Sure. That's fair. It's just not my style.
SPEAKER_01It's like now that you mention it, so like a lot of people, you know, think of like wine tastings. Like, so it's like if you ever wondered why, like, when you taste wine, if you if you eat a piece of salami or something, like when you do a wine tasting and then you try try the the wine and why it tastes different, is because like the fat coats your mouth, right? So it changes the flavor profile. The brat is brilliant. And I actually think the this beer would cut the fat from a brat very nicely. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm also just thinking, like, all that grease off of a brat too, would like with this yeast would pair actually really, really well.
SPEAKER_01Mustard and sauerkraut. I love mustard and sauerkraut on brats. This would actually that that clove would be paired really well with some sauerkraut. Oh my god. I know what I'm having for supper. Sorry, everybody listening to this like right before lunchtime.
SPEAKER_00Brats and germ. Find some brats. Who knew they went together? You would you thought maybe somebody did that before. But yeah, but it's like if you're gonna have like pizza in this, no, no.
SPEAKER_01There. Yeah, it's a strange flavor for that. Like you want something pretty neutral for pizza, right? That's that's my thought. So usually, yeah. Right. So I don't know. I think it's good. I think I think all of our reasonings are perfectly fine. I do agree with you. It would it's it would be best paired with something. Yeah, I would drink it if somebody gave it to me, but I agree with you at the same time.
SPEAKER_00Like if I'm gonna go to a uh if I'm gonna go to Westbound and Down and sit there and pick from their lineup and only drink beer there, I'm probably not gonna pick this.
SPEAKER_02That might be true.
SPEAKER_00I'm sure they have some other ones that stand on their own a little bit stronger than this one. But if they're selling brats, heck yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so if you want to know more about uh Westbound and Down, you can go to their website, uh www.westboundanddown.com, and they have a whole slew of other beers. We may try to find some more of these. Um, I remember when I bought this, they had several different types of beers. So I just grabbed something that looked interesting. So don't be surprised if they show back up on the show again. Uh, but I think that's gonna do it for uh the beer part of this episode.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. And what time is it? We have reached the bottom of the barrel. So we're gonna draw from the barrel. Have you posted a picture of this yet? I have not. I need to post a picture.
SPEAKER_02We've got it. Last time we did one of these bromas.
SPEAKER_00We have a real barrel. So this is the time of the show where we pull a random topic and dive deep into whatever that topic is. Whether it be God help us oh so deep. Whatever comes from Damon's mind, or any of the rest of us.
SPEAKER_02Oh no. So here's the good news. He's not even here.
SPEAKER_01No, here's the good news. It can't be worse than music for you, Brad.
SPEAKER_00Oh we're moving on up because this one is Marvel movies. Oh, I think this was a Roth contribution.
SPEAKER_01I think I contributed all of that.
SPEAKER_00What if we're not current? There's plenty to pick from that you don't have to be current. Go back to 2008. So you have like 20 years almost. Yeah, what's the spoiler? What's the spoiler threshold here?
SPEAKER_02I don't even know. It doesn't really matter. Let's be honest.
SPEAKER_00Is it endgame or is it like after endgame?
SPEAKER_02I think I've seen endgame, I'm pretty sure. Okay. I don't know. There was a big battle. Yeah. Bunch of people disappeared. Or are they back?
SPEAKER_01Uh that was Infinity War. They're back.
SPEAKER_02Then they came back in Endgame. I don't even remember.
SPEAKER_01They fought.
SPEAKER_02Maybe. Doesn't really matter. Don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I'm okay at lending this topic to just talk about movies if we want to talk about movies. I think that would be. Oh no, it's Marvel movies. Okay, Marvel movies. Okay. I'm I was just giving you you guys an out just in case. So are we talking favorite Marvel movies? Just general topics. You put it in there. I know, I know. Uh to me, we could talk all-encompassing. Like it doesn't have to be your favorite one. Like we could talk about whatever. Uh, so I guess general vibe. Do you guys like the Marvel movies? Are you more of a DC fan?
SPEAKER_00Oh, you went there. You went there. Uh, I am a DC fan, not for the movies. I grew up with Justice League.
SPEAKER_01Sure.
SPEAKER_00But the movies, for the most part.
SPEAKER_01They still haven't figured out their stuff.
SPEAKER_00No. Hey, here goes Netflix. They're gonna take it over and bash the luck.
SPEAKER_02Netflix does something's okay.
SPEAKER_01That's true. We'll find out. So what are your feelings on Marvel movies?
SPEAKER_02I prefer Marvel movies to DC movies for sure. I actually prefer Marvel comics to DC comics, with the exception of Batman. Um but that's more so what I didn't read a ton of comics as a kid, but the ones that I was interested in or did, that way they were on the Marvel side. Sure.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I guess I didn't I do same as Brad. Like I I grew up like watching the Justice League because that was uh that was a Cartoon Network thing that you could watch the Justice League. I always watched that. I remember watching this is getting away from Marvel movies, but I do remember watching uh uh Batman, the animated series. Yes. That was a great show too. Those were all good, but it's like I I don't know what it was about Iron Man when it came out in 2008. Like I I I really like John Favreau. And so like John Favreau directing that movie, and then I I think one of the biggest things about Marvel movies is regardless of what you th think like about them as a whole, the casting is done extremely well. Like of the core group of heroes, name me somebody a hero you look at and go, Oh, that that really doesn't match. And it it you really can't find one like that, like Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, or the relatively very, very, very few recastings that they had to do.
SPEAKER_01Two. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00How long of a season or a series this has been, like a Marvel Universe, like to not recast very many characters is insane.
SPEAKER_01Well, it helps with your continuity for sure. So that's why sequels can be successful. Like, even if the story is eh, as long as you have the same characters, you at least have buy-in for that reason, and they might continue watching for that reason because they like whoever it is. Chris Hemsworth, you know, great Thor.
SPEAKER_00But also, this is Hollywood you're dealing with. So you're dealing with a whole lot of divas, right? Like the the chances of one of their superstars going through and like going off the deep end, you know, like uh going Britney Spears, like when she shaves off her head, or something like that, like crazy. Uh chances are pretty high. But they've gotten those pretty on lock where most of 'em have turned out.
SPEAKER_01Right. I I think the the thing that helped Marvel Studios more than anything was when they started, they didn't start with a property that a lot of people knew. It's like DC always goes back to Superman. Batman, which you have you have to get right for peop 'cause people have opinions about it. You know, it's like you think back to like uh Michael Keaton's Superman or like Val Kilmer Batman.
SPEAKER_00Or the newest Superman.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, or the newest Superman. And and so it's like it's like when you when you when you're doing the big ones over and over again, if you don't do it right, people lose interest. So what they did was they took Iron Man, who not a lot of people knew a lot of stuff about, and they did it extremely well. And part of the reason for that was Marvel Studios didn't own Spider-Man. Sony continues to own Spider-Man. So they couldn't start and launch everything with a Spider-Man movie. They had to start somewhere. And when you start with something that people have zero expectations for, you're setting them, you're setting yourself up for success doing it that way.
SPEAKER_00And so when you do when you I don't know that's exact success is the right word because uh I'd say billion dollars in revenue equals success. But also the eternals is a movie.
SPEAKER_01But you're talking one at that point, you're talking one of like 25 billion dollars.
SPEAKER_00You're getting so niche that it's like you're you're not scrapping the bottom of the barrel here.
SPEAKER_01But see, I didn't think the internals was that bad of a movie. I think it just didn't fit, like the style didn't fit great with everything else.
SPEAKER_00And it's also burnout.
SPEAKER_01Sure, by that point, yeah, for sure. Watching. Right. Yeah, but I think that's something they figured out with what was it, phase four or phase five, whatever phase we're in nowadays, um, that they needed to release things slower. And I think Disney Plus did not help them at all because they thought they needed to do slates of TV shows to go with the movies, and then they changed the window for the movies so that you were releasing like five to six movies a year. Well, when you're trying to crank out that much, your quality is gonna go down anyway, and they've changed that now. It's like now we haven't had one in a while, and so now you're and then you're you're swinging back with like Doomsday to bring back in the Russo brothers who uh directed Infinity War and Endgame, yeah. So they know the model to do it correctly, right? Right more or less. So I I I I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I will say the other thing that I always really like, regardless of whether it's Marvel, DC, or mostly superheroes, um, but origin story movies are my favorite. Like the Black Widow movie, that was a movie, right? Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01Uh like it's a TV Disney Plus. That's why it's hard to remember.
SPEAKER_00Uh even like that. I love the origin stories of where these heroes came from. Once they get established, mmm.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00Those are good movies, but they're not as distinct for me. Sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's fair. I think that's like why a lot of the sequels struggled, because like two, Thor two, uh not really super memorable movies. More it was more for continuing the story and keeping the overall plot going more than anything else. So I I get that. Yeah. Also the fact that we had a Hulk movie and we've never had a Hulk movie again, because there's a whole rights thing with that.
SPEAKER_02Well, what was uh what was the first Hulk movie?
SPEAKER_01The one recasting.
SPEAKER_02The Incredible Hulk? Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, like overall or the Marvel Studios version? Before Marvel Studios. Yeah, it was the Aang Lee one officially exists. Yeah, with the neon green Hulk. Maybe. I think it was just called the Hulk. The Hulk. If I remember right. Let me look it up.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm also thinking, like, so technically, does Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3, do they count since Sony still owns all that?
SPEAKER_01Well, they're canon now because of uh their backday.
SPEAKER_02Toby Maguire was in the other because they brought him into the thing. As not great of a movie as it was when it came out, I really like Spider-Man 2 because of emo Toby Maguire at the time.
SPEAKER_00Yep. That's fair. Who was the second Spider-Man?
SPEAKER_02Andrew Garfield.
SPEAKER_00I didn't watch a single one of those movies.
SPEAKER_02Watch the first one that he was in. I don't remember what it was.
SPEAKER_01I don't remember which one it was either.
SPEAKER_02Or his The Amazing Spider-Man?
SPEAKER_01I think so. Yeah. Okay. That one. Yeah, and then all the Tom Holland's have been like Spider-Man, Homecoming, Spider-Man, Spider-Man Colon.
SPEAKER_02Spider-Man Colon.
SPEAKER_00But when it comes to Spider-Man movies, none of them are as good as Into the Spider-Verse. I've not seen the comic books style one is really one of those.
SPEAKER_01A style animation is so good for those movies. Ugh, it's amazing.
SPEAKER_02It is. Well, and so some of the Disney Plus shows have been a miss, but some of them are pretty good. Right? Right.
SPEAKER_01Agreed.
SPEAKER_02So um Agatha Agatho was pretty good.
SPEAKER_01But part I think part of what made Agatha good was they weren't trying to tie it back to elements were there from other things, but they weren't the plot wasn't part of a bigger story, which helped them immensely. Yeah. Like WandaVision, WandaVision played directly into everything else that was going on. But it was the first one, so it was super successful. And it was really cool how they did that too with the TV show themes and everything. I love that. That was great. Yeah, that was cool. I think Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the most like least memorable one that I had. Like I don't remember any of that. Yeah, that's fair. So but even some of that's come around because that's like where Falcon became Captain America and was going with his identity crisis struggles, and that's where um the anti-Captain America who ends up in um the the new Avengers movie, I can't remember what it's called. Um the one with all the baddies. Of course I haven't seen that one. That was really good.
SPEAKER_02I can't remember. What was the Disney Plus show where um Hawkeye has the girl underneath him? Oh he's like Ronin part of the time.
SPEAKER_00Hawk girl?
SPEAKER_02No. Why can't I think of it? That was a good one. She has a uh she has an actual like alter ego or superhero name. It was just called Hawkeye. That no no no. That was the name.
SPEAKER_01No, I thought she had her own show. I'm literally looking at the really that has it has what's it has what's her bucket in it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know, but I can't think of her.
SPEAKER_01I can't Why can't I think of it? I thought it was named after her. Hayley Steinfeld. Yes, but that's just in the show Hawkeye. She play Kate Bishop is who she plays.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. I guess I thought it was named.
SPEAKER_01Who I think she may end up being in the young events.
SPEAKER_02I like Takai.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, ironically, we talked about Netflix. Yes. They had a Marvel series, they had multiple Marvel series.
SPEAKER_02What? Yeah. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders and Punisher. Daredevil was fantastic. Did you guys watch Daredevil?
SPEAKER_01Those are all coming back around now, too. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Those are fantastic, actually. I mean, they've already started Daredevil again. I watched most of Jessica Jones, a little bit of The Iron Fist. What was the other one? The Punisher was one of them. I never watched The Punisher.
SPEAKER_00Defenders?
SPEAKER_02Nope. I don't think so. I don't think it's so. Yeah, a couple of them, I think. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00Too many, too many shows. Too many movies. Too many characters.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's hard to keep track of all of them. Speaking of shows, go way back to Agents of Shield. Oh yeah. And even before that? After the OG Avengers movie when Phil Colson dies but ends up coming back in the show. Those are good. Your wife likes those. Yeah, they were good. They were good. We watched them. Agent Carter in Humans? I never watched Agent Carter, although I do like um Oh my god, I sound so awful.
SPEAKER_02That's when you had to watch things on TV, though.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh Agent. 2013.
SPEAKER_01Haley Atwell.
SPEAKER_00First release Agents of Shield. Hmm. 2013. Yeah. Then a hot minute.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Whew. That was before I was married, no kids. What did I do with my time? You watched TV. Yeah, that's true. Yep, you're right. That's very true. Play black ops? Play a lot of black ops. That is so true. Back in my Call of Duty days. So yeah. Marvel movies. How do we feel about Robert Downey Jr. coming back as Doctor Doom?
SPEAKER_02It'll be weird to see him in a new role, but does he really need more money at this point?
SPEAKER_01He's gonna kill it. That's a fair question. Oh yeah, he's gonna kill it. Oh yeah. So I know I know your feelings on Fantastic Forum, eh? But there were clues in that movie that pointed to Doctor Doom that you probably didn't notice. Like they scroll past like the United Nations in that movie, and they show an empty chair with Latviria, which is where Doctor Doom is from, and he makes the appearance in the post-credit scene. Did you make it to the post-credit scene?
SPEAKER_00Uh I think so. I mean, it's Marvel movie. You gotta watch the post-credit scene.
SPEAKER_01And there's a whole there's a whole deal with Franklin Richards too.
SPEAKER_00But man, I cannot keep up with the amount of Easter eggs that they include and drop and stuff. It's like who does more Easter eggs? Marvel or Taylor Swift? That's that's a bottom of the marathon.
SPEAKER_01That's a whole episode. Whole episode. We'll be talking about trees and wood and god only knows what else.
SPEAKER_02I'll let you everybody else decipher it. You guys just let me know when you're gonna do that episode.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So Phil's not a swifty. Okay, got it.
SPEAKER_02Not a swifty.
SPEAKER_01Alright, any other thoughts on Marvel movies? Do you have a favorite one? I guess that's a good question. I have lots of favorites. That's my problem. Uh Black Panther? Question mark, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Rest in peace, Chad Boseman. Chad Boseman. I mean, the first Iron Man is always a really good one. Yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Thor Ragnarok is good. I was thinking Thor Love and Thunder, but.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I didn't like Love and Thunder as much as Ragnarok.
SPEAKER_02A little different, but I I actually really enjoyed the second Iron Man too. I know it's the second, but I thought it was fine. Yeah, I like that one too. I enjoyed the story in that one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Or the first time the Avengers came together. The first the first time.
SPEAKER_01That was a good one too when they fought Loki. Yeah. Ooh, TV shows. Loki TV show was good. Guardians of the Galaxy count too, right? Oh yeah. There were all of those movies. Guardian of the Galaxy are fantastic. Those are good. They knocked it out of the part. That Guardians of the Galaxy was what gave me hope that Disney could handle Star Wars. I didn't know how well they would handle like space movies until I saw that. And I think you can have your own opinions about Disney and Star Wars, but I think the movies look good if nothing else. So it's like they can handle that piece of it, which gives me a little solace, I suppose. But anyway. But that's yeah, Guardians of Galaxy made me feel bad.
SPEAKER_00Were you really concerned Disney was gonna make a movie not look good? Well, you know, dude, sometimes give me an example of when they have not. Based on its time of when it was debuted.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say, okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like go back to the 30s or 40s or 50s. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Don't go Mickey Mouse. Okay. Keep going. Give me a minute. I'll I'll come up with something. Yeah, because it's like Was Jungle the Jungle a Disney movie? Anybody remember that one?
SPEAKER_00I mean, are we talking if it's Disney Channel that doesn't count? No Disney Channel crap.
SPEAKER_01It's not this is Tim Allen. It is a Disney movie, Tim Allen. Okay, what was the year? 1997. It's a live action movie. And his son, Mimi Siku. Oh, I remember. Oh, is that familiar with the film? Oh, that movie.
SPEAKER_02I'm familiar with the film.
SPEAKER_00It's been a hot minute, but not the high point of a Tim Allen's career. Okay, there might have been a there might have been a dip in Disney quality there for a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Oh man. Surely there's been some eh uh cartoons over the over the years, but I don't know. Anyway.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's called Disney Channel.
SPEAKER_01But some of the Disney Channel movies were really good too. I think of like Luck of the Irish was I loved that one. That was a good one. You remember that one? Was Mighty Ducks Disney? Yes, it was. The Mighty Ducks movies. Those were good. I like those movies. They were good.
SPEAKER_02I still think D2 Mighty Ducks is a very Is that one you're talking about? Was that like the Jewish basketball team? Is that a different Disney movie? Jewish basketball team? Yes. No.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I don't know. That sounds like a movie like that.
SPEAKER_01I feel like I could get flagged if I Googled this. Are you sh are you kidding me? I literally type Jewish basketball movie. Full Court Miracle was a Disney movie.
SPEAKER_02That must be the one I'm thinking of then. Okay. So no, I'm thinking of a different one than you have.
SPEAKER_01I have no idea what this is, but holy crap. C. Yeah, C classic right there. Something. Oh man.
SPEAKER_00This is what we envisioned when we said we were going to scrape the bottom of the barrel on topics.
